Sketch Bath Experience

Create a lasting memory of Bath in paint and discover the joy of ‘plein air’ watercolors under the friendly and experienced tuition of award-winning painter Catherine Beale SWA. 

Explore the hotel gardens' paths, nooks, beautiful borders and architecture and settle on the lawn to paint in rich, professional paints with Catherine’s step-by-step guidance.

Or, gather subjects in The Crescent, Royal Botanical Gardens, Pulteney Bridge or Sydney Gardens and create your own mini watercolor sketchbook with Catherine’s help.

If you prefer to paint inside and out of the weather, Catherine's studio (three miles from Bath) is a rural painting haven with huge views and a library of inspirational landscape photos to choose from.

Catherine is the author of a brand new watercolor book ‘Capturing light’  which features several paintings of Bath.

An introduction to line and wash in the hotel gardens (under cover of the garden umbrella if wet) or on a rug in front of the hotel façade. For up to two people.

Half Day, 4 hours, £300

Explore Bath's two stunning waterways - the river and the canal - in ink and watercolor as they pass through the City. (Some walking and steps on route.)

Full day, 10am-4pm, £480

A packed day sketching in ink and watercolor for up to four people. Catherine will help you discover and sketch subjects around Bath including bridges, waterways and parks. She can also help you compose and take photographs if you would like a record of scenes, colours and lighting as a source for future paintings. (Some walking and steps on route.)

A packed day of watercolors for up to four people. Includes materials, source images and Catherine’s tips on composition, colour use and trouble-shooting techniques.
